SWAP Studies
Solid Waste Analysis Protocol (SWAP) studies are undertaken annually to help inform waste minimisation activities. The sampling regimes for the SWAP studies are determined prior to the surveys: the number of cars, domestic rubbish bag trucks, skips and ‘other trucks’ to be sampled and the frequency of selection of vehicles. The following data from each vehicle type was then recorded:
Unique vehicle identification number
Day and time
Type of vehicle
Source of waste – municipal, commercial and industrial, building and demolition, and other sources
Weight of each of the sub-categories of waste
