Landfill Gas Fire or Excess Landfill Gas Odour
Disclaimer: This procedure guides the operation of YVLF. It is intended as a working document that is improved through operational experience and updated accordingly. Please send updates, changes and comments to landfill@ncc.govt.nz
Procedure
-
There are two likely causes for a fire to be started on the landfill, either a fire deliberately started or hot coal ash or some combustible waste (e.g., lithium-ion battery or marine flare) being incorrectly included in the waste stream.
Any fire at the site must be treated as an emergency. No burning of any waste is permitted on site.
A Fire Management Plan (FMP) has been developed by GHD (2022) for the York Valley Landfill.
